Physician Handbook

The Physical Rehabilitation Department at Mercy Hospital offers both Inpatient and Outpatient services including Physiatry consultations, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy, and Speech Language Pathology.  Our team of professionals is experienced in evaluating and treating a wide range of acute and chronic musculoskeletal and neurological disorders.

Inpatient services are available from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, 7 days/week.  Please call the inpatient department at 879-3287 for further information.

Outpatient services are provided at Mercy Health Center located at 616 Forest Avenue in Portland.  Our facility offers a wide range of exercise equipment, including Cybex, and a state of the art Swimex therapeutic pool.  Our therapy staff utilizes a hands-on approach employing the most current manual therapy techniques.

Stephen Hull, MD, a physiatrist and our Medical Director, is available full time to provide outpatient consultations on physician referral.  Our focus is on restoring and maintaining function in patients with pain and non-pain impairments.  Problems most typically treated include:

• spine disease with or without radiculopathy
• joint and extremity pain
• neuropathic pain
• myofascial pain syndromes
• complex regional pain syndromes

We do not provide long-term management of patients.  Patients will be stabilized and transitioned into independent, community-based treatment programs, their ongoing medical management being returned to their referring physician or primary care provider.
