Physician Handbook

Mercy Hospital's Pain Center provides assessment, treatment and interventions for a variety of complex pain problems that lend themselves to injection therapy.   We are a physician referral service only for out-patient contacts.  Our treating physicians are anesthesthiologists who have a special interest and training in pain management.  Our nurses also have extensive expertise and training in this field of practice.

Medical management issues can be referred for evaluation and recommendations.   We do not provide long-term medical management of patients.  These patients are seen based on specific physician to physician requests.

Pain problems most typically treated include: spine disease with or without radiculopathy, epidural fibrosis, neuropathic pain, complex regional pain syndromes and uncontrolled oncological pain.  Referrals are made for other modalities such as surgery, physical therapy, behavioral therapy or complimentary therapies.  Our staff of physicians and nurses holistically considers the patients' experience and works to reduce their global level of suffering.  We strive to help the patients increase their functional levels and improve their understanding of their pain problem.

The Mercy Pain Center is committed to evaluating the quality of our services and examining current and future research/therapies regarding the best practices in pain control.
