Physician Handbook

The Mercy Hospitalist Service began in October 2003.  Since that time, the hospitalists have been admitting patients for community physicians, attending to the unassigned medical admissions, performing medical consultations, and providing support to the podiatrists and eating disorder program.  The hospitalists have a complementary relationship with the Physician Extender Service.  The hospitalists also participate in the UNE Rotating Internship Program.

Presently, the service is staffed by six physicians.  Service is provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The hospitalists maintain a list of physicians who utilize their service available in the emergency department.   Community physicians who are interested in having the hospitalist service admit their medical patients are asked to page Dr. Cynthia Atkinson at 741-9262.
