What is Compliance?

Compliance puts into practice the core Values of Mercy Health System of Maine: "Compliance is Integrity in Action."  The MHSM Compliance Program goes beyond just addressing legal and regulatory issues, it is designed to promote a corporate culture of integrity and ethical behavior.  As a "Value in Practice," compliance is the Mercy way of doing the right things for the right reasons.

What is My Responsibility?

Mercy Health System of Maine is committed to conducting business in compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations.  All employees, members of the Medical Staff and volunteers have an ethical responsibility to report any violations or possible violation of laws and regulations.  In addition, as a member of the Medical Staff, you should be familiar with the standards of conduct which are inherent in the Medical Staff Bylaws, the Code of Ethical Behavior, the Mission and Values Statement of the hospital, the Disruptive Practitioner Policy, and the Impaired Practitioner Policy and conduct all business and clinical activities in accordance with these policies.   These referenced documents are available on a CD which you will find in the front pocket of your handbook.

How Do I Report a Compliance Concern?

If you have concerns about any ethical, legal or regulatory violations or possible violations, you can contact either:

• Mercy Health System Compliance Hotline, 1-800-822-8734

Reporting to the "800" number compliance line can be anonymous if desired.

Is there Compliance Training Available for Me?

Yes.  Compliance training is available through a Staff Training System called "Train Me Now".  If you're interested in completing the training module, please contact the Mercy Health System Compliance Officer at 879-3909.
