Clinical Nutrition

879-3597

The Clinical Nutrition Team consists of Registered and Licensed Dietitians, Licensed Dietetic Technicians, and Clinical Nutrition Assistants.

  • The department is staffed from 6:00 am - 6:00 pm seven days a week.
  • Non-emergent voice messages for the dietitians can be left at 879-3597.
  • Dietitians are generally available from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm Monday - Saturday; on Sundays the on call Dietitian may be paged at 741-1010.

The Clinical Nutrition Team provides inpatient nutrition care services including:

  • Nutrition screening no later than the day after admission, assigning nutrition risk level and timeframe for nutrition assessment.
  • Nutrition assessments and follow-up assessments on an ongoing basis.
  • Implementation of tailored nutritional supplements to maximize oral nutrition.
  • Recommendations for enteral and parenteral feeding strategies.
  • Assistance with menu selection for patients who need help.
  • Education/counseling for therapeutic diet modifications.

Nutrition assessments (including recommendations) will be found in the "Care Activity" section of the E.M.R.

If additional input beyond that which has already been documented in the nutrition assessments is desired, please order a nutrition consult.  Paging the dietitian when a consult is requested to discuss the patient is ideal.  If a dietitian is off duty or cannot be reached by pager, please leave adequate information in orders or progress notes regarding the purpose of the consult (nutrition support recommendations, patient education, etc.).

Registered and Licensed Dietitians are integral team members in the Eating Disorders Program.  These dietitians can be reached at 771-5226.

Registered and Licensed Dietitians also staff the outpatient Diabetes Center up to 40 hours per week.  A physician referral is needed to initiate this outpatient process.  Educational sessions may be individual or in a group setting.   The Diabetes Center can be reached at 771-1753.
