This clinical program is designed to care for patients who are scheduled for surgeries or other procedures
which do not require an overnight stay. It also provides pre-anesthesia testing (PAT) for
patients who will undergo anesthesia or deep sedation.
The ACU includes the Medical Ambulatory Care Unit (MACU) and Preadmission Testing (PAT). It
is located on the second floor and consists of:
-
17 beds and 11 reclining chairs for patients who are recovering from outpatient surgical
procedures, diagnostic procedures, blood transfusion and infusion therapy and A.M.
admissions for inpatient surgical procedures. The unit is divided into two
separate areas. Staff is trained to work in both areas and patients may be
interchanged as needed. Pre-admission testing occurs adjacent to the ACU/MACU
areas.
-
Surgical patients receive pre-admission assessment, testing and teaching by PAT and the
Department of Anesthesia before the day of the scheduled surgical procedure.
-
Endoscopy procedures are also coordinated through the Ambulatory Care Program.
