Gary's House

Welcome to "a place for families"
Gary's House is a home that started as a young man's dream. While undergoing cancer treatment in Boston, Gary Pike saw how financially devastating it was to his family to remain near him. It was his final wish to establish a hospitality home here in southern Maine for families of patients undergoing medical treatment in a Portland area hospital.

Gary wanted families to find comfort knowing they had a place to stay, near their loved one, without being financially burdened. His dream came true when Gary's House opened its doors on December 13, 1998. Gary's House joined the Mercy family in 1999.

The home is a gracious, Federal-style duplex, offering nine comfortable bedrooms and six community rooms (kitchen, dining room, living room, family room, playroom and laundry area). Generally, families may stay as long as their family member is hospitalized. Guests most often stay up to two weeks, but special arrangements may be made if a longer stay is needed. A nominal fee of $15 per night is charged, with payment preferred at the time of stay. However, other arrangements may be made with the director.

Check-In: By appointment, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Arrangements for weekend arrivals can be made during regular hours.
